Olympic Events

The Olympics are over and I think I finally have my body back on Eastern Standard Time instead of Pacific Standard Time nights and Eastern Standard Time mornings. Did anyone else have trouble getting out of bed after those late nights?
I did succumb and join the Yarn Harlot’s Knitting Olympics. Face it, those of you who know me never had any doubt that I would join. My project was Simply Shetland’s Autumn Rose Pullover shown here:
It was a very ambitious knit and I knew I could never finish it in the 17 days of the Olympics. So I decided instead to challenge myself to complete the body to the armpits. I did manage to get that done just before the 3rd period of the final hockey game. If you live in Canada or the US, you know exactly which hockey game that was. It was great hockey, sit-on-the-edge-of-your-seat hockey. And I will say it was a shame that either team had to take home a silver medal.
Today, 5 days after the Closing Ceremony, my Autumn Rose looks like this:
That blob at the top of the body right in the middle is the bottom edge of the steek that will be opened up to become the neck. To the right is one arm, ready to join onto the body and the beginning of the second arm, just started.
I am loving this knit. The colours are what first attracted me to this design. But the rhythm of the fair isle is keeping me hooked. If you like fair isle knitting, try this one.
Another event of Olympic proportion has been taking place over the past several months here. I have opened a business that sells – what else – yarn and knitting supplies to knitters. It started out with stock in my living room, and looked like this:
Now, after much reorganizing of rooms and ’stuff’, and after much ’stuff’ has left my home and moved on to other peoples’ stashes, I have a room that looks like this:
The name of this lovely new venture is Sheeps Ahoy. You can check it out here. And if you are tempted, give me a call. I’ll be here knitting – it’s my job!
