Must Knit This!

If you haven’t already seen this lovely hat, it’s by Kate Davies and available either from Ravelry or Kate’s website. While I can’t sell you the pattern, I can sell you the yarn kit of all 9 of the Jamieson & Smith Shetland Supreme Jumper Weight yarns. I’ve made up a kit with over 50 m of each of the colours (that should be double what you need to complete the hat) for $32.85 + shipping and tax. Contact me if you would like one. You never know, you might just have it finished for Christmas :-)

KW Knitters' Fair - the Next Adventure

Well I am back from the Design Your Own Fair Isle Workshop in California. Check out my blog if you want to know all about it. The short answer – it was Great!

On Friday, I will pack up and head to the Kitchener-Waterloo Knitters’ Fair. I have often termed this ‘the biggest knitting-buying orgy in Canada’. Don’t miss it!

I have some new stuff to show you at this year’s fair.

The new book, Knit One, Knit All – Elizabeth Zimmermann’s Garter Stitch Designs is not to be missed. The designs in this book are new or rarely seen. I have the Hand-to-Hand Cardigan on the needles now. Check on it’s progress at the Fair. It will be with me.

I will also be selling lace designs by Natalie Servant. These designs are fresh, new and colourful. You will also have a chance to meet Natalie at our booth.

A new fair isle design out of Schoolhouse Press called Sacred Trees is now available in kits. I can’t wait to start this one. But I have to finish Flowers of Life first.

We will also have a selection of lovely items (shawl pins, stitch markers, etc.) from Fancy That creations by Francine.

And finally, we now sell buttons – mostly pewter. Come by and check them out. If you don’t see what you are looking for, come and talk to me about what sort of buttons you would like to see. And yes, I will update the website with pictures of them after I return.

Away – Aug. 25 – 29

It seems like all I’m doing lately is telling you that I’m away. I am about to dash out the door to attend a 3-day Design Your Own Fair Isle Workshop in Berkeley, CA. Janine (aka Feral Knitter) is hosting. Check out her website if you are curious :-)

Away at Knitting Camp – July 14 – 18, 2011

I’m currently trolling through my knitting bags, trying to decide what knitting to take with me on my annual pilgrimage to Meg Swansen’s Kntting Camp. I’ll be away from Thursday, July 14 to Monday, July 18 inclusive. If you call Sheeps Ahoy then, we won’t be there to answer. But I will check my email periodically. I’ll be back to work on Tuesday, July 19th.

Sacred Trees - Just Arrived

The mailman is very popular here. Yesterday he brought in a shipment of Jamieson’s Shetland Spindrift. We will now have kits of the new Schoolhouse Press Pattern called Sacred Trees.

From the Schoolhouse Press website:

Sacred Trees is the second pattern in Ron Schweitzer’s Remembered Voices collection, a spectacular Fair Isle pullover in a rich pallet of 11 Shetland shades.

Ron writes:
“The design stimulus for this series is the art, the rituals, and the lives of indigenous Americans and their ancestors from North, Central and South America. They all lived in harmony with the natural world, and drew their livelihood from the land, the elements, animals, plants, and trees. Beliefs that certain trees are portals for spirit energy are central to many Native American civilizations. To the Salish Nation of the Pacific Northwest, the Arbutus tree was sacred; Mayan culture considered the Ceiba tree central to their mythology and cosmology; and the Aztecs venerated the Copal tree, whose wood provided incense believed to be the ’scent of heaven’. Sacred Trees captures the essence of these and similar beliefs using 11 colors of Spindrift Shetland Wool and an allover tree motif I developed from Celtic artwork.

How long do you suppose it will take before I have this one on my needles?

For those of you waiting for information on our annual Eastern Ontario Needlers’ Retreat, the information for this year’s retreat will be available early next week.

This Just In ...

Yesterday’s mail contained a lovely little surprise – the latest Knitting Traditions magazine. I had indicated I wanted this magazine whenever it became available quite some time ago. So, it was just like Christmas all over again when the latest issue showed up in the mail. Here’s the official blurb on it:

A PieceWork Special Issue – explores knitting’s glorious past with more than 45 projects for socks; shawls and scarves; gloves, mittens and cuffs, purses, edgings and household items – each with a story that provides historical context. This magazine has timeless projects that knitters will love, each focusing on lace, color, texture and/or technique.

$15.99 + shipping. Order soon as supplies are limited.

A Small Sale

Welcome to 2011.  I have lots of new stuff planned for you this year.  I will be updating the website over the next several weeks, so stay tuned.

I currently have one lonely copy of Franklin Habit’s Stash of Knitting Cartoons Calendar.  I will sell it at 20% off ($14.36  Canadian).

The Schoolhouse Press Pattern, Flowers of Life is still on my needles.  I’ve started the first sleeve (and cut the first sleeve steek to do that).  The colours are wonderful and the rhythm of the fair isle knitting is very soothing.  You can watch my blog for knitting progress and other details of what’s going on in my life.

Needlers' 2011

Yes, we had a fabulous time at this year’s Needlers’ Retreat. Anyone I talked to said they would be back next year. So I took that as a good sign and booked our dates for 2011. Mark your calendars:

November 4-6, 2011

I will start taking registrations late in April 2011.  Those of you on my e-mail list, will receive a newsletter sometime in March with prices and dates to register.
